Learning to Fly
Photographing and tracking the phenomenon of bird migration is an extremely difficult task. The likelihood that birds will agree to fly next to any aircraft, which appears large, noisy, and threatening, is nil. Therefore, nature photographers get creative. When the chicks hatch from their eggs, they are taken to a laboratory where the pilot, dressed in white clothes that mimic the shape of a bird, is located. The disguised pilot feeds the birds throughout their growth period. Thus, they get used to the pilot and see him as the mother, and the plane is just another big, strange bird that's a bit noisy but most importantly, friendly. And when they reach maturity, ready for their maiden flight, the pilot/mother figure starts the engines and takes off, with the young birds flying after him. We turned these stunning shots into breathtaking stereoscopic images using a special technique. The experience "The Dream To Fly" is a weave that includes these migration shots from Europe to Africa, along with images that demonstrate the mimicry humans performed to learn from birds how to fly. The experience is projected with the integration of electric chairs that move the viewers in full synchronization with the camera movement, along with an array of wind, water, and sound effects, creating a breathtaking and thrilling multi-sensory sensation.
